FAQs

Do you sell bikes?

Not at the moment! We are a bicycle workshop focused on repairs and education. We have a small space, fully focused on service - with a curated collection of colorful & quality parts, accessories, & tools.

How can I book a bike service?

Please bring your bike on by the shop in person! We will give it a full assessment in our repair stand, and will recommend a service or repair package to meet its needs. Our primary mission is to keep transportation bikes rolling — we can typically make quick fixes like flat repairs or brake adjustments as walk-in services. But bigger holistic repairs for well-ridden bikes will be booked for a future date.

(You can try to use our contact form, but we are sometimes a little slow with replies!)

How full is your calendar?

Best way to find out is to stop by the shop in person! We typically book up for service packages 2-6 weeks in advance in the busy season. But we prioritize fitting in emergency repairs for transportation bikes as walk-ins when possible!

What if I need replacement parts?

We keep many common replacement parts in stock for purchase or for service jobs — or we are always happy to help you source and order what you might need, from our awesome network of US and global distributors. Just ask in the shop or shoot us an email to Leah@upshiftdc.com!

Do you service e-bikes?

We are proud to offer certified full-service repairs, including motor service and diagnostics, for any Bosch equipped electric and cargo bikes.

We are also happy to service the bicycle parts (brakes, shifting, flats, etc) of many other electric pedal-assist bikes, with some exceptions:
- No e-bike conversions
- No e-bikes that travel over 28mph
- No e-bikes purchased from Amazon, Kickstarter, or similar online marketplaces

We also do not service electric scooters or motorized bicycles.

We unfortunately typically do not have space to store cargo bikes for more than 2 business days.

What if I don’t know exactly what I need?

We pride ourselves in being one of DC’s most beginner-friendly bike shops — a no judgement zone, where all questions are welcomed. When time allows, we do our best to walk you through the assessment of your bike, and teach you a little about part names & how things break. If you don’t quite know how to describe what you need — just keep it brief, and we will use many years of experience to diagnose your bike and offer a few possible solutions to get you back to rolling smoothly!

Why are you open only 4 days/week?

We are open to the public for walk-in hours currently just on Thursdays-Sundays. Our closed-workshop days are reserved for a jam-packed schedule of repair appointments, classes, and special events or private lessons. We have a small staff of just 2 full mechanics and one flat-fix specialist, so we need to have a few days off every now and then, too!

We always keep our hours fully updated on our website, Google Maps, and social media, with any changes or special events - at least one week in advance of any changes.
